I received some products from my friends at Oriental Trading for this post. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
Since I’m a homeschooling mom, I don’t typically have the need to make Christmas gifts for teachers or caregivers. BUT, since I’ve discovered that pretty much my only kid-free “break” in the day occurs if I go to the gym, I decided that the sweet girls that work in the childcare room at the gym needed a little treat for taking care of my little ones for a couple hours each day. What’s better than delicious Christmas candy? How about Christmas candy in a handprinted mason jar wrapped in red and white baker’s twine?!
To make each jar, you’ll need the following:
mason jars {quarts} | holiday mason jar lids & rings | acrylic paints {red & green} |
foam brushes | Cricut | vinyl | gift tags | baker’s twine | snowflake charms | candy
Using my handy, dandy Cricut Explore Air 2, and a quick google search, I found a simple deer and Christmas tree silhouette that I liked. I cut it on vinyl that I knew I probably wasn’t going to get much use out of {why use a color that I knew I’d use for a more permanent project later on, right?!}. Then I got to work with my acrylic paint and a foam brush, lightly dabbing the paint all over the mason jar, up the edge of each shape.
Yes, this was complete at nap time, hence the baby monitor and cup of coffee. Keeping it real, people, keeping it real.
I applied a single coat to each jar, let them dry for about half an hour and then a second coat was applied as well. The next day, I scratched away at some of the raised words and numbers on the jar to give the paint a chipped or antiqued look.
After all the paint was dried, the mason jars were filled with a few kinds of Christmas candy, and I got out my cute snowflake charms and Christmas tassel charms, red & white baker’s twine, and Christmas mason jar rings and lids to put the finishing touches on our gift. For each jar, I strung on two snowflakes, one tassel, and a gift tag that I had purchased on mega sale last year after Christmas. I then wrapped the baker’s twine around and around the rings several times and tied it off on the end.
I just love the Christmas mason jar lids and rings too. They really make the gift look festive!
These would make great gifts for neighbors, teachers, Sunday school leaders, friends….you name it, really! Who doesn’t love candy?!
