Hi I’m Kadie from Seven Alive all Livin’ in a Double Wide. I’m really excited to be here and celebrate back to school season with all of you “Wait Till Your Father Gets Home” readers. Meredith is such a sweet person, I feel so blessed to be able to count her among my friends! I’m a huge fan of her blog, she has so many great ideas, *LOVE HER*!
Back to School time is always bit hectic at the Double Wide. However I try to do a few things for each child to make it special for them. One of the things I have started doing over the last few years is making headbands and bows for my daughter. You can find some of the other ones I’ve made here and here.
This year I wanted to try something different. When I saw some butterfly hair-bow I had one of those ” I can make that” moments. You can too, I’ll show you, they’re easy peasy!
You will need an assortment of grosgrain ribbon, hot glue gun, hair clip, and scissors.
The ribbon I used came from Pick Your Plum and Mindy Mae’s Market.
Take the ribbon you want to use for the smallest circle cut a 3 inch strip. Roll it in to a loose loop.
Glue the ends together. Make two more loops each slightly bigger. Glue them all together.
Of course you’ll need two.
Glue those onto a ribbon lined hair clip
I find it works best if you glue the first one towards the front of the clip, right were you push it open.
After you get both of the “wings” glued on you can glue on the antenna For this I use just the side of some brown ribbon.
With a tiny dab of glue I stick those in place. Now get out your matches and melt the ribbon to make a ball and seal the ribbon.
Before melting
After melting.
The melting step is optional. A word of warning ~ don’t try to stick you finger on the ribbon to try to “fix” the ribbon as it’s melting. The melted ribbon will come right off onto your finger, and burn like crazy. Tears and unpleasant words my result. Not that I would know anything about that.
There really are two antenna on the bright pink bow but the melting got a little out of hand, so one is shorter than the other.
There you go super simple, cute and fun. Now all you need is a little girl to put them on. Luckily I happen to have one who is willing to model for me.
Make sure they don’t fly off to go smell the flowers or have a drink. ;0)
Thank you so much Meredith for having me over!
