Let me just preface this with this statement…
You DO NOT have to track what your family reads!
I’m simply sharing what’s worked for my family, and trust me it’s easy. If it weren’t easy, I wouldn’t be doing it. It does require a little extra step from me every now and then, but other than taking the minute I need to “track”the book there is no pressure. I think that’s the key to making my process work. It’s just a simple list .
You can find several reading logs that I’ve created in my Teacher’s Pay Teachers store, here for FREE! I use the one titled Homeschool Reading Log and actually just tape it to one of the first few pages of my EC Teacher Planner.
When we start a new book, I record the title, author, and date started.
Then we read!
Once our book has been fully read, I go back to our reading log in my school planner and record the date ended.
Something exciting happened a few weeks ago with my reading log. I actually got to print out a second page and tape an additional one into my planner! I’m hoping we fill another page before the end of our school year.
I am not always great about recording picture books that we read. If I was, we’d certainly have pages of logs filled out by now because we probably read 10-20 picture books in a week. I need to make that a goal for the next school year now that I think about it. I’d love to be more intentional about recording every single thing we read together, so we can look back on our reading journey throughout the year and be so proud of all we’ve read and learned together.
Another goal of mine for the next school year is to help my children keep track of their individual reading a little bit better as well. We can practice by recording our family read alouds together which will hopefully put them in the habit of recording their own books as well. I’d love nothing more than to see that list grow each year.
How do you keep track of your family’s read alouds?

I clearly need to get on it with the book reading 🙂
