This is by no means our first Halloween with children, but it is the first time we attempted to do some fun pumpkin carving with our two year old. Now, clearly, he’s not old enough just yet to do the actual carving, but he did LOVE joining in on some quality family time this past weekend helping mama and daddy carve some pretty pumpkins.
Lucky for us, we were sent a HUGE assortment of Pumpkin Masters Kits to try out this year {which made our carving experience super easy and extra fun}!
Before we could get started, we headed to our local nursery to take advantage of their “all you can carry” pumpkin deal for only $20! We LOVE to go to a pumpkin patch as well, but find the prices just absurd. So instead, we buy them at the nursery, but still like to head to a pumpkin patch for fun pictures, warm cider, and a hay ride or two each year!
Yes, that’s SIX pumpkins!
Once we got home our little guy was eager to figure out this whole pumpkin carving business. Mostly he wanted to hold the pumpkins and he’d get bothered that we were cutting into them, but what can you expect? He’s two!
So while mommy and daddy carved pumpkins, our little helper did lots of things with us. Our pumpkin carving experience included coloring, having snacks, and watching movies. One movie in particular inspired us to carve a couple of pretty fun pumpkins that our little guy LOVES!
I’m sure you’ve seen the Pumpkin Masters Kits around town this month as they are available at most local grocery stores, drug stores, craft stores, and of course Target and Walmart.
Having the kits to do all of our carving put our minds at ease. We soon realized that our favorite tool out of all the kits we received was the surface carving tool.
Huge kitchen knives + a two year old present = not a smart combo. Using the kit was definitely easier and safer for this family!
After a fun afternoon of carving, we soon had four freshly carved & scraped pumpkins!
Here’s a short video of our pumpkin carving experience…
We had such a fun and entertaining afternoon of pumpkin carving thanks to Pumpkin Masters Kits and our little pumpkin!
Have you used a Pumpkin Master Kit this month to prep for all those trick-or-treaters that will soon be knocking at your door? If you have, you should share your creations on Instagram or Twitter with #PumpkinMasters2013. Not on Instagram or Twitter, that’s okay too {although I highly recommend that you change that} you can submit your creations via the Facebook app or even send an email to social@pumpkinmasters.com to enter for the chance to win one of six prizes, including $5,000 for the Best Pumpkin. You better hurry though, the contest ends October 31st!
