I’m so excited at the positive response I got to last week’s “Teach Me Tuesdays” activity. In case you missed it, check out my idea for color sorting and matching here.
Let’s dive right into this week’s activity, shall we?!
I’m so excited to share this week’s idea as it’s something that you can get a ton of use out of as your children grow. The possibilities for learning truly are endless with this one!
I’m sure you’ve seen or hopefully at least heard of felt boards. In case you didn’t know, felt sticks to felt! Therefore, once you’ve got a surface covered in felt {that by the way is such a super cheap fabric to purchase, especially if you’ve got a coupon}, you can make multiple activities, games, and stories to use on your felt board.
To make your own you’ll need:
Please don’t go out and buy a poster frame at regular price. Use a coupon, buy it while it’s on sale, or even check out your local thrift store or garage sales. I ended up finding mine at JoAnn’s on sale for 60%.
To make your felt activity board, unwrap the poster frame and take out the cardboard insert inside. Instead of inserting a poster, cut a large piece of felt that’s about 1 inch longer on each side {you can buy felt by the yard at most fabric stores–purchase according to the size of your frame}.
To secure the felt, I put a few dabs of hot glue on the cardboard insert and smoothed out the felt on top. Once it’s secure and smooth, pop it back into the frame {remove the plastic cover so that the felt is exposed and ready to be used}.
Now, have fun creating fun activities you and your preschooler can work on together! Eventually they’ll even want to try it out independently as well!
I started simple with some basic shapes and colors…
And I also created this fun caterpillar activity to learn about numbers and colors!
I’m excited to share more felt board activities with you in the coming weeks!
Happy teaching!

I remember having felt boards like this when I was a kid. So much easier to use than paper and tape.

Found this on Pinterest and had to say thanks for sharing! I have one if these frames already and this would be perfect for my shared Sunday school space! Small enough to stash when not in use and bring out for certain activities and flannelgram aids! 🙂
