I was provided free product for the purposes of this post from Deco Art. As always, all opinions are 100% my own!
I’ve slowly started the process of adding some decor to the nursery when I’ve had some time here and there {you know between caring for a newborn and chasing a toddler}. Since big brother ended up taking his book basket to his big boy room, I needed a solution for all the board books he left behind for little brother.
Luckily I had just gotten tons of awesome, new, multi-surface satin paint from Deco Art and some pretty great stencils to try out on this perfect crate I had in the back of my craft closet.
{These were only HALF of the colors they so graciously sent my way. You’ve seriously got to run, not walk (okay, you can drive) to your nearest Michael’s to check them out!}
I chose to go with two colors for this project {don’t worry, I’ve got big plans for all the other colors soon}.
To create my Bedtime Stories Crate, you’ll need:
bare wood crate {found at Michael’s}
Multi-Surface Satin Paint by Deco Art in Buff Beige & Sky Blue
Letter Stencils by Deco Art
paint brushes
The entire process was super easy! I chose to paint the entire crate with the Sky Blue color. It took two coats, but I’m sure if I weren’t such a messy painter, I probably could have gotten away with only one.
Once my crate was a beautiful shade of sky blue, I waited for it to dry and began to read up on the stenciling tips on the back of my stencil package. For some reason, stenciling has never been my strong point. I think the fact that I’m crafting with a toddler running around in the background doesn’t help matters, but that’s how life goes in my house these days.
The stenciling part took maybe five minutes and was probably one of my most successful stenciling projects to date.
Once the entire crate was dry, I loaded up all of our gently loved board books, attached a cute pennant banner {one of my favorite crafts from the 2013 SNAP! Conference} to the top of the shelf in the nursery, and added a painted H for Henry. I used the Multi-Surface Satin paints to paint the H as well! I just love the pop of color it adds to the room now, as most of it is cream, tan, and white.
If you’re interested in trying out Americana Multi-Surface Satins yourself, you can find them available for purchase at Michael’s, A.C. Moore, Hobby Lobby, and other fine craft retailers!
They’ve also got an awesome rebate offer available until 10/31/13:
