Hello Wait Til Your Father Gets Home readers! It’s Barbara from Chase the Star, and I’m here to share a simple craft you can make to bring a little of the outdoors in this summer.
Beach Style Jars
If you’re familiar with my blog you may know that I like fun, and easy crafts that are not time consuming. I love beach style decor in my home, and now that summer is here, I have every reason to indulge! These cute jars came together quickly and with very little money. If you want to bring a little ‘beach’ into your home, here’s how you can do it:
Materials:
Various jars (I used mason jars and an old candle jar)
Jute twine
Sand
Votive candles
I live about 20 minutes from the beach so rather than driving out there I went to my local home improvement store and picked up a 50 lb. bag of sand for just $2.46 {score!}.
Also, because Ball is celebrating their 100th anniversary with beautiful blue hued ‘Heritage’ jars, I picked some of those up at Michael’s (with a 40% off coupon–I love to be frugal}.
These lovely blue jars, along with some clear mason jars I already had lying around were filled with sand. I added a votive candle to each–simple as that. On the larger clear jar, I wrapped twine around the neck for a rustic yet beachy feel!
I used an almost empty Yankee candle jar by simply wrapping several rows of twine around it covering the label and securing it with hot glue. I love twine for this project because it mimics the look of sand, and just works so well with any decor.
Another fun thing you can do to incorporate some of the beach within your home is to fill small metal buckets with sand and small shells:
These little buckets are from the thrift store.
I have them on my mantel–high enough to stay away from small hands, and close enough to enjoy!
How have you brought the outdoors ‘in’ this summer?
I’d like to thank my good friend Meredith for having me over today, I loved sharing my crafts with you guys!

I do something very similar. I have gathered sand and other beachy items when we’ve visited various beaches. I put them all in a jar and put a tag around the top with the place where the items came from and the date we visited. They are proudly on display in our loft. I love those jars.
