Hello, my name is Meredith and I’m a gift bag/tissue paper hoarder.
I honestly have no shame in admitting that though. When anyone in my family receives a gift in a gift bag, I immediately fold it up, along with the tissue paper and tuck it neatly in my gift wrapping stash. So, typically, when giving a gift, I can simply select a perfectly good gift bag from my stash, some coordinating tissue paper and call it a day.
But, after receiving some absolutely adorable products from the new line of Dear Lizzy Fifth & Frolic crafts coming to your local JoAnn’s {debuting March 17th}, and seeing this super cute handmade pennant gift bag at Silver Boxes last week, I knew I wanted to make a new gift bag for my niece’s upcoming 2nd birthday party. You only turn two once, right?!
First, let’s take a peek at just some of the goodies that will hit JoAnn’s stores nationwide this Sunday…
There’s just something about spreading out a stack of brand new scrapbook paper that makes me happy. I love all of the colors, patterns, and textures that Fifth & Frolic has to offer. Many of the papers are reversible too, which is super cool {and extremely practical} in my opinion.
Don’t even get me started on this sweet little blank journal. Inside there are different papers and pockets on every page. It would make a very cool mini scrapbook. The stamps and buttons were too cute as well!
To make my
Handmade Pennant Gift Bag & Matching Tag
I used the following supplies:
plain white gift bag {yes, I splurged and bought a gift bag, no, it didn’t break the bank}
double sided tape
hot glue/glue gun
and the following Dear Lizzy Fifth & Frolic products…
gold glitter stickers
button brads
punch out paper pennant
cute burlap bows
pre-cut tags
To get started, I simply began punching out the little pennant flags from the paper. The process was VERY easy and honestly slightly therapeutic {kind of luck popping bubbles on bubble wrap, but without the sound, which was good because my little guy was napping}. Once I had the length I needed, I just used some double sided tape to attach the little pennants to the front of the gift bag. Easy peasy.
Next, I got to work on a cute tag. I chose two from the package of tags and taped them together, pretty sides facing out. That way, both sides of the tag looked finished.
On the front, I added gold glitter stickers with my nieces name, a button, and eventually one of the sweet burlap bows.
The back was just a plain tag, where I wrote our birthday message…
Once the tag was complete, I was ready to put all of her gifts in the bag and admire my craftiness!
And here’s a close up of the gift tag with the burlap bow attached…
Remember, the Fifth & Frolic paper crafting line will debut in all JoAnn’s stores on March 17th!
The line, designed by Liz Kartchner, features crisp blues, pinks, greens, yellows and airy neutrals with hints of gold.
