I’m swapping blogs again today with a new friend of mine, Kadie! She has a super cute tutorial on how to make some Patriotic Filigree Earrings, and I’m sharing a DELICIOUS recipe over at her place for Philly Cheese Sloppy Joes (hey, sloppy joes aren’t just for kids)! After you’ve finished reading Kadie’s tutorial, head over to her place and say hello for me!
HELLO, Wait Til Your Father Gets Home readers. My name is Kadie, I run the blog Seven Alive all Livin’ in a Double Wide.
I am really excited to be here today. I recently “met” Meredith. She is so fun and sweet; I’m so happy to call her my friend. We thought it would be fun to “swap” blogs today. So I am here and your regularly scheduled program with Meredith is over at my blog.
Mostly I like to blog about my love of crafting, sewing, cooking, photography and my favorite, crocheting. There is a good bit about being a mother of 5 fantastic kiddos thrown in for good measure.
Today I’m really excited to share with you a tutorial on making your own Patriotic Filigree Earrings. They are fun, easy, and totally perfect for the up coming summer holidays.
Now all you need is some spray paint and some earring hooks. The spray paint can of course be what ever color you want, but for today we are using red, white, and blue. To be more specific we are using Krylon spray paint in Burgundy, Ivory, and Blue Ocean Breeze. Love these colors!
Take your filigree earrings and spray paint an even coat of Ivory over both sides of your earring.
Yes, I spray paint on my lawn. I also use a brown paper lunch sack to set my earrings on. ( Yes, I also have multi colored squares of spray painted grass all over my yard.)
Next tape off the section you want to stay white.
I found that the washi tape from target is the perfect width and it wont pull my paint off when I’m done.
Put a second piece of tape over the part I want red. And spray paint blue.
Let dry for a few minutes, then pull off the tape covering the far edge. Cover the blue edge and paint red.
Pull off all tape and let dry.
I am an impatient crafter so the first pair I made I didn’t let them dry long enough and there was a big red thumb print in the white part. So learn from me and WAIT until the paint isn’t tacky any more.
Last, attach an earring hook.
You can use a jump ring and earring hook or………
… the over sized hook that clips into its self.
Both can be found at most crafting stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.
And there you have it some festive, fun, patriotic, summertime earrings.
Thanks so much Meredith for swapping blogs with me today it was a lot of fun.
We would love to see you around the Double Wide sometime.
